“How much does landscape lighting cost?” is the first question most homeowners ask Light TN, and the honest answer is that it depends — on the property, the scope, and the quality of the system.

This guide explains the variables that actually move the price so you can budget realistically, and how Light TN’s pricing works once a design is in hand. For the full service, see our landscape lighting page.

01What drives the cost

Light TN prices a landscape lighting system by what the property and the design require. The biggest variables are the size of the property, the number of fixtures and zones, and the transformer and cable runs needed to reach them. Which services are combined into one system matters just as much — a focused front-facade plan and a whole-property system with audio and smart control sit at very different points, because they involve very different amounts of design, equipment, and labor.

Because of that, a designed system is priced after an on-site assessment rather than from a fixed rate card. The number reflects your home, not an average.

02Why a designed system costs more than a kit

Light TN is a design studio, and a designed system reflects design judgment, specified fixtures, and proper installation rather than a box of parts. Quality LED fixtures with good drivers and beam control cost more than bargain fixtures, but they hold their color and output for years and carry a fixture failure rate Light TN tracks at under 1% a year.

The value is in a system that still looks right years later, not the lowest upfront number. A kit replaced in a few seasons rarely turns out cheaper.

03How Light TN’s pricing works

Light TN sets the price after the on-site design, not before. The consultation is free, and you approve a photorealistic rendering and scope before any commitment. Projects over $10,000 carry a 15% deposit; projects under $10,000 require no deposit; and the balance is paid in full on completion.

Design-only plans are available — renderings, fixture specifications, and zone layouts — and the design fee is credited toward the project if Light TN installs the system.

04Cost over time: efficiency and warranty

The price of a system is only part of the picture; what it costs to own matters too. Light TN systems run on efficient LED, which the U.S. Department of Energy notes uses roughly 75% less energy than incandescent, so a full system typically costs only a few dollars a month to run.

The work is backed by lifetime manufacturer fixture warranties and a one-year workmanship warranty, plus a satisfaction guarantee — if you are not happy with the outcome, you don’t pay.

05What’s included in the price

A Light TN quote covers the design, the specified fixtures, and installation to licensed contractor CE-D: 76580 standards. Trenchless cable burial on established lawns and an after-dark visit to aim every fixture are part of the work, not extras.

Warranties and the satisfaction guarantee are included with every project, so the number you approve is the system you get — designed, installed, and aimed.

06Getting your number

The real answer to cost comes from seeing your property, so the number reflects your home rather than a regional average. Light TN has completed more than 500 projects across Middle Tennessee since 2020, and each one started with a walk of the property and a rendering before any commitment.

FAQ

Landscape lighting cost, answered.

How much does landscape lighting cost?

Light TN prices landscape lighting by the size of the property, the number of fixtures and zones, and which services are combined, so the cost is set after a free on-site design rather than a fixed rate card. You approve a rendering and scope before any commitment, with a 15% deposit on projects over $10,000 and none on smaller ones.

Why does professional landscape lighting cost more than a kit?

Light TN, as a design studio, prices in design judgment, specified high-quality fixtures, and proper installation — not just parts. Quality LED fixtures hold color and output for years with a failure rate under 1% annually, so the higher upfront cost buys a system that still looks right years later rather than one replaced in a few seasons.

Do you charge for the consultation?

Light TN provides the on-site design consultation at no charge. Daryl Bentfield walks the property, and you receive a photorealistic rendering of the design before any commitment.

Is there a deposit?

Light TN requires a 15% deposit on projects over $10,000 and no deposit on projects under $10,000, with the balance paid in full on completion.

Can I get a design without paying for installation?

Light TN offers design-only plans — renderings, fixture specifications, and zone layouts — and credits the design fee toward the project if Light TN installs the system.

How much does landscape lighting cost to run?

Light TN systems run on efficient LED, which the U.S. Department of Energy notes uses roughly 75% less energy than incandescent, so a full residential system typically costs only a few dollars a month in electricity.

Does landscape lighting add value to a home?

Light TN finds well-designed outdoor lighting improves how a property looks, photographs, and lives after dark, and supports curb appeal and safety. While Light TN doesn’t quote a specific resale figure, a designed system is a lasting improvement rather than a seasonal expense.

What’s included in the price?

Light TN includes the design, the specified fixtures, installation to licensed contractor CE-D: 76580 standards, trenchless cable burial on established lawns, and after-dark aiming. Warranties and the satisfaction guarantee are part of every project.
