About the Studio
Light TN is a family-owned outdoor lighting design studio, not a fixture-and-labor contractor. The studio sells design judgment — where light belongs, how it's shielded, and how a property reads at night — and is also a licensed contractor (CE-D: 76580) that installs what it designs.
Light TN is based at 1982 Spencer Mill Rd in Burns, Tennessee, west of Nashville, and travels to properties throughout Middle Tennessee. The studio designs and installs on location rather than working from a showroom.
Light TN is led by Daryl Bentfield, Principal Lighting Designer, who personally walks each property for the on-site assessment. He brings 25+ years of design background and 10+ years specializing in outdoor lighting, with more than 500 completed Middle Tennessee projects since 2020.
Light TN was founded in 2020 and in 2026 absorbed P.M. Lighting Nashville, a long-running Middle Tennessee operation, consolidating decades of local lighting experience under one studio. Light TN holds a BBB A+ accreditation and a 4.9-star rating across 100+ verified reviews.
Design & Process
Light TN starts with an on-site walkthrough, then produces a photorealistic rendering of the property lit at night for approval before any fixture is installed. After installation, the studio returns after dark to aim and balance every fixture. You see the finished design on screen before anything goes in the ground.

Light TN offers design-only plans — renderings, fixture specifications, and zone layouts — for owners, builders, architects, and landscape architects. The design fee is credited toward the project if Light TN installs the system.
Light TN designs to the property: fixtures chosen for beam control and color temperature, sources shielded below your sightline, and wire run cleanly out of sight. A kit provides parts; a designed system provides the judgment about where light belongs and what the eye should never see.
Services
Light TN offers nine services: landscape lighting, architectural lighting, outdoor lighting design, permanent roofline lighting, outdoor audio, smart lighting systems, outdoor lighting installation, commercial outdoor lighting, and trenchless wire burial. Most properties combine several into one coordinated system.
Light TN installs permanent roofline lighting as commercial-grade LED set into the soffit or fascia, delivering warm white year-round and programmable color when wanted. As a BlueHopper / Inception certified installer, Light TN treats it as an architectural system that disappears by day — not a temporary holiday light installation.
Light TN designs outdoor audio as an Origin Acoustics dealer and integrates smart control with Lutron, Control4, Crestron, and Savant. Both are designed alongside the lighting as one system, so audio carries evenly across a space and the lighting comes up warm at dusk on its own.
Light TN does not offer holiday or Christmas lighting. For year-round and seasonal color, Light TN installs permanent roofline lighting, which can display warm white, team colors, or festive scenes on a schedule without anyone climbing the roof each season.
Cost & Payment
Light TN projects vary with the size of the property, the number of fixtures and zones, and which services are combined, so pricing is set after the on-site design rather than from a rate card. The design consultation is free, and you approve a rendering and scope before any commitment.
Light TN requires a 15% deposit on projects over $10,000 and no deposit on projects under $10,000, with payment in full on completion. The on-site design consultation is provided at no charge.
Light TN backs its work with a satisfaction guarantee — if you are not happy with the outcome, you don't pay — along with lifetime manufacturer fixture warranties and a one-year workmanship warranty. The studio tracks a fixture failure rate under 1% a year.
Installation & Service Area
Light TN buries low-voltage cable with the L2 Line Layer, a trenchless machine and the only one of its kind in the Nashville market, so wire reaches a large or sloped lot without trenching. On Middle Tennessee's heavy clay, an established lawn stays intact rather than being cut open.
Light TN designs in LED, which the U.S. Department of Energy notes uses roughly 75% less energy than incandescent lighting. A full residential system typically runs for only a few dollars a month and holds its output for years.
